The Stratified Human

A comparative atlas of the layered person
Many traditions describe a person in layers: a body, a breath or life, one soul or several, a mind, a spirit, a divine root. They draw the lines in different places and give them different work to do.
The Stratified Human will set these accounts side by side, each in its own terms and with its sources, so that resemblances can be studied without being mistaken for equivalences.
- Egyptian funerary texts
- ka, ba, akh, ren, shut
- Late antique Platonism
- the soul's vehicle, the ochēma
- Taittirīya Upaniṣad
- five sheaths, the kośas
- Kabbalah
- nefesh, ruach, neshamah
- Taoist inner alchemy
- jing, qi, shen
- Theosophy
- seven principles
Why it is not open
Its entries are still being checked against their sources, and an atlas that lines up a score of traditions is only as good as that checking. It will open when the work is done. No date is promised.
